Southampton Concert Wind Band invite you to:
A Musical Union
with special guests Symfonisch Blaasorkest Heemstede
St Andrew's Church - Saturday 1st July 2017 at 7.30pm
Southampton Concert Wind Band welcomes the fabulous Symfonisch Blaasorkest Heemstede from Amsterdam. Their programme includes the wonderful western titles The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West, from the great Ennio Morricone, here adapted by Dutch composer Johan de Mey. In The Soldier of Orange we'll hear a stirring piece by Rogier van Otterloo. It is inspired by the bravery of young Dutch secret agents who risked their lives to pass messages to Queen Wilhelmina of Orange during the second World War. More treats include Klezmer Classics and The Seafarer.
SCWB promise an evening crammed with big sounds from our musical tour of the British Isles. Naturally there'll be a Ticket to Ride courtesy of Lennon and McCartney, and we'll be taking the high road, (or the low road) to Loch Lomond, (see how many stirring Scottish tunes you can recognise!).
Barb'ra Allen, is a traditional ballad said to be the most widely collected song in the English language. It includes the line 'my love died for me today, I'll die for him tomorrow.'
A highlight will be Rhosymedre, Vaughan Williams beautiful arrangement of a famous Welsh hymn, and we cross to Ireland for The Rakes of Mallow. This depicts a spirited story of Irish pugilism which turned up in John Ford's Oscar winning film The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne.
The Two bands will play a rousing finale featuring the ever popular Amazing Grace, arranged by William Himes, and Arnhem by A E Kelly, who took part in the D-Day landings and was wounded in action in 1944. There will be plenty more to enjoy and discover on the night. A truly joyful concert not to be missed.
Tickets are priced at £8 adults / £6 concessions / free entry for under 16 and can be purchased on the door or in advance by emailing email@example.com
If you would like to book the band for any kind of function (private or public) please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
