Chandler's Ford Methodist Church
Saturday 18th October 2008 at 7.30pm
Southampton Concert Wind Band is looking forward very much to performing its autumn concert in Chandler's Ford Methodist Church at 7.30 pm on Saturday 18th October. Before looking at the programme of music, it needs to be pointed out that this will indeed be an unusual event for the band for two reasons. First of all, the band is delighted to announce that the concert will be an opportunity to raise funds for Winchester and District Samaritans. Secondly, the concert will be recorded for later broadcast by Southampton Hospital Radio. We are delighted, therefore, that this event will allow the band to make a hugely positive impact on our community. The concert programme stretches across a wide range of musical styles. What band concert anywhere in the world would be complete without some music by John Williams? We will 'toe the party line' by performing his excellent, yet perhaps relatively unknown, Midway March. We will also perform one of the great orchestral overtures transcribed for band, Poet and Peasant by Franz von Suppe. Our soloists will be featured in Bass in the Ballroom and Frolic for Trombones while that classic of the wind band repertoire, the English Folk Song Suite by Vaughan Williams, will grace the second half of the concert. I could, of course, proceed to list every item on the programme of music, but I reckon it's best to keep you guessing! You are all more than welcome to come along and support not only Southampton Concert Wind Band, but also Winchester and District Samaritans and Southampton Hospital Radio. A relaxing and enjoyable evening of light entertainment is guaranteed! Tickets priced at £8 (£6 concessions) are available through the Point box office:
